The Arvon Foundation

I've blogged before about the Arvon Foundation writing courses I've been lucky enough to attend. I cannot stress enough how much they helped me on my way with my graphic novel, and last November I was lucky enough to return to the course as a guest tutor.

Also last year, Arvon asked if I would be willing to be interviewed about my experiences for a short promotional film. I reluctantly said yes....I'm not terribly comfortable with being on camera even for photos, so the prospect of being filmed didn't exactly fill me with excitement.

It was April last year when the film-maker and cameraman visited my studio. They were both lovely, and made me feel right at ease. It was so long ago I had almost forgotten about it when I was told the film was ready, but think the result is great and I'm so glad I got to be a part of it. Apparently there will be a longer version soon, but for now here is the short one:

I can understand why you love these courses so much! It looks so lovely and peaceful and inspirational!

I think working on art can be so isolating sometimes, and it looks like such a wonderful opportunity to interact with other people in a really non intimidating way (unlike scary galleries and other places you are expected to 'make connections')!
